View from the US: ISC West reviewed
In the US, last week was ISC West – the country’s key conference for announcing new security products. The consensus was relief and happiness at the good showing at the conference.
Many people thought attendance was actually up and most felt that, even if attendance was down, that the quality of the interactions was higher than in past years.

Coming out of ISC West, I see 6 major emerging trends for video surveillance products, reflecting new announcements and vendor positioning. Some are getting stronger – like megapixel cameras and hybrid DVRs, while another look to be fading (video analytics) and others may be over-hyped, like advanced storage and PSIM.
Finally, earlier in the week, we discussed the dangers of manufacturers pre-announcing products and not being clear to buyers about the timing of the actual release. Be careful about this when assessing new offerings and pay attention to what the commenters recommend in the discussion.
