Accreditation for Security Design Centre

This stamp of approval was a result of the security installation SDC made at the British Security Industry Associations’ headquarters at Kirkham House, Worcester.

It means that remotely monitored CCTV systems installed by SDC, which also use BS8418 compliant CCTV transmission equipment and remote site monitoring, will be considered compliant throughout. The resulting CCTV systems can also be issued with unique reference numbers (URN) by the police, previously only allocated to intruder alarm systems.

David Trimmer, MD of SDC, said: “BS8418 remotely monitored CCTV systems aim to reduce false alarms and unnecessary police call outs. Monitoring station operators respond immediately to site incidents.

“They can demand intruders leave a site via speaker, request a mobile patrol visit or key-holder response and, only if necessary, involve the police or emergency services.”

A BS8418 site will usually receive a level 1 (immediate) police response, because site incidents have been verified as genuine and can also expect reduced insurance premiums.

Trimmer said: “We are 100 per cent behind the standard as it offers far superior site protection, management, crime prevention and detection. The accreditation is a welcome addition to our National Security Inspectorate Gold standard, ‘SafeContractor’ and ‘Constructionline’ certifications.”
