Jack Case awarded ASC membership
The event was held in Palm Springs, California. Former ASC chairman Colin Braziel and ASC Board member Allan Hildage (both of the Griffin Security Group) enjoyed the American hospitality experience during the three-day conference, but had to ‘sing for their supper’.
Jointly, they gave a very well received presentation on the real business benefits of adopting and practicing the security standards laid down by the International Standards Organisation’s (ISO) 27001, 27002, 28000 and, for business continuity management, our very own British Standard BS 25999.
The opportunity was also taken to award Jack Case – IAPSC Board member and former president – his ASC membership certificate. An independent security consultant of more than 30 years standing, operating from offices in San Diego and Las Vegas, Case was the first IAPSC member to take up the opportunity of what is hoped to be an ongoing mutually beneficial affiliation between the two bodies.
Speaking to SMT Online, Braziel commented: “Jack Case has been a good friend of the ASC over the years, and done much to develop a relationship between the two associations. I feel that it’s extremely fitting he should be the first to enjoy formal membership.”
ASC Business Club: focusing on CCTV
The next ASC Business Club meeting – sponsored this time around by AD Network Video – takes place on 16 July at Bury House, 33 Bury Street, St James’s in London.
Entitled ‘CCTV: but not as we know it!’, the event kicks off at 10.00 am with introductions from ASC chairman Roy Sutherland and Alan Lefford (vice-chairman of the BSIA’s CCTV Section and director of AD Network Video).
At 10.10 am, Mike Horne – managing director at AD Aerospace – looks at the special requirements for in-flight recording and camera technology at 50,00 feet!
Horne has worked extensively with video cameras in harsh environment applications. These systems have covered a wide variety of purposes from missile guidance, fire control and pipe inspection through to commercial security. Since 1995, Mike has specialised in the design, manufacture and writing of standards for video systems in aerospace applications, and is an accomplished speaker in this field of CCTV.
Following Mike’s presentation is Simon Hill of Innovative Sensor Development. He’ll be looking at the use of cameras for gun sighting. Why use CCTV on guns? What are the special requirements for accurate shooting in any terrain and climate?
Hill boasts a long and distinguished career in military video applications, especially in low light and rugged terrain. He’s best known as the founder of Prostab International, a major player in the military CCTV applications market in the 1980s and 1990s.
CCTV applications on public transport
At 11.30 am, Jeff Berg will be presenting. The guest speaker from AD Mobile is set to examine CCTV and its applications on public transport. Why has on-board CCTV become so popular? How can CCTV on vehicles provide an excellent Return on Investment for the client? These are but two of the questions Berg will address on the day.
With an original background in the computer industry, Jeff has now clocked up 25 years in the CCTV and security sector. He’s a prolific contributor to UK vertical sector journals and the international press. At present, Berg specialises in mobile CCTV in the transportation sector where he has been involved in the implementation of many thousands of systems.
Next up (at just gone midday) is Ian Moore of DTec Fire Detection. Why use CCTV for fire detection? Can cameras really multi-task?
For his part, Moore has specialised in fire and integrated detection systems for over 20 years. He studied electronics as a Royal Navy engineer, moving to the Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces followed by stints with Chubb Alarms, Siemens and Cerberus.
Ian is an active member of many standards committees, and has spent much time speaking at seminars around the World on the subject of innovation in fire detection systems.
The future for video surveillance technology
The final presentation is down to Julian Inman of AD Network Video. Where are we going next with surveillance? Inman will provide an overview of all the latest award-winning technology and offer a glimpse of the future for CCTV.
Open Forum questions followed by a buffet luncheon bring the event to a close at 3.00 pm.
