Investigators from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and officers from Fife Police checked numerous security officers working at commercial sites. Three held licences. One individual was working as a security officer in-house and, therefore, did not require a licence.
Checks were also carried out on pub door supervisors. Seven operatives held valid SIA licences, but Fife Police charged one unlicensed individual for working without a licence under the Terms and Conditions of the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
Speaking to SMT On line about the operation, Sharon Roberts – an SIA Head of Investigation – explained: “I’m pleased that the majority of security operatives inspected were complying with the legislation. Anyone deploying or employed as a door supervisor at a licensed premises or as a contracted security officer at a commercial site needs to hold an SIA licence.”
Roberts concluded: “We’ll continue to work with the police to ensure compliance with the law. As a result, further operations may take place in this area.”

Checks at bars and clubs in Grimsby and Cleethorpes on the same night found 100% compliance with licensing regulations.
Investigators from the Security Industry Authority and officers from Humberside Police ran random compliance inspections at 15 bars and clubs. By law, all door staff must hold a frontline SIA licence and display this while working. 47 door staff were checked and all held valid licences.
Nigel Davis, an SIA Head of Investigation, explained: “This exercise follows on from work carried out earlier this year testing compliance with SIA licensing regulations so I am pleased with the results. Grimsby and Cleethorpes tend to attract a high number of holiday makers and weekend trippers so, with the summer holidays fast approaching, we want to ensure that individuals working in positions of trust are doing so legally and that they hold SIA licences.”
Inspector Tom Shaw added: “We work in close partnership with local door staff as they are integral to a safe night time economy for our community. It is a credit to the hard work of Sapphire Security and Protech Security.”
