As part of a follow-up to another operation conducted earlier this year to ensure that only SIA licensed door staff work at local licensed premises, SIA investigators, officers from the Redbridge Police Licensing Unit and licensing representatives from Redbridge Council inspected 17 door supervisors working at pubs and bars in the Borough.
16 operatives held valid SIA licences but one door supervisor was not properly licensed. Further enquiries are being made.
SIA Head of Investigation, Christy Hopkins said: “The role of the door supervisor is key to ensuring that pubs and clubs are safe places to enjoy a night out, so I was satisfied that the majority of door supervisors checked had valid SIA licences. We will continue to work closely with our partners on future visits to the area.”

A spokesperson for Redbridge Police Licensing Unit added: “Redbridge Police continues to work to keep licensed premises safe. We enjoy a good partnership with the SIA and their expertise is invaluable. We look forward to further such operations in the near future.”
Cllr Vanessa Cole, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, commented: “Redbridge Council works closely with the police and SIA partners and this operation was one of a series of ongoing checks at licensed premises. We’re taking robust action to ensure that all door staff are properly trained in their responsibilities, and are registered with the SIA. While we check that all door staff are properly registered and can contribute to making the public safe, we will also rigorously enforce pub licence conditions and ensure they are good community neighbours.”
