The complaint is identical to the one filed in federal court in February this year.
It states that employee identification cards required by Walt Disney compromise workers’ identity and privacy because they contain a bar code imbedded with employees’ Social Security numbers, according to the legal publication, the Westlaw Journal Employment.
Richards et al. v. Walt Disney Co. et al, led by Kristi Richards and Jorge Iniestra, was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on behalf of more than 20,000 current and former Disney employees.
ID cards are used for clocking in and out and accessing sites, according to the workers. They say that personal information from the bar code can be read on smartphones and any barcode scanner can read them.
The suit, which asks for injunctive relief to stop Disney from putting the personal information on the cards, also seeks damages, including credit monitoring and fraud insurance, to protect employees from possible identity theft.
