It comes after Government legislation changes dictate that public facilities, such as hotels, maintain their CCTV systems and recording devices as part of an overall pre-emptive strategy to discourage potential crime and encourage tourism.
CCTV cameras were installed throughout the hotel by OHI Electronics.
Sachin Srinivasan, senior sales manager at the company said: “Overall, Oman is experiencing a boom period in security industry growth.”
“Furthermore, Hikvision’s products are easy to install, easy to manage, and hold up very well to the extreme climate and temperature conditions that Oman is prone to.”
CCTV specifications
The interior of the four-star hotel was fitted with a DS-2CC591P-A vari-focal dome camera, which was chosen for its ‘unobtrusive housing’ as well as its ability to ‘identify any person…regardless of how dark the particular area might be’.
Outside, the DS-2AF1-514 analog speed dome was installed, selected for its 360 degrees pan range; as well as its 360 degrees of coverage in front of the lobby.
For areas highlighted as more security-sensitive, such as the hotel’s petrol station, the Al Falaj Hotel has deployed DS-2CC193P-A high definition box cameras.
The cameras have been linked to a control centre inside the hotel.
HikVision’s DS-8116HDI-S standalone DVR units have been installed and are connected to a remote network that allows additional monitoring from other areas inside the building.
A digital future
Sachin predicted that while analogue was used throughout the hotel, its future would be in digital.
“Our existing analog system is very good, but HD simply offers better options such as higher quality resolution. While I do not see the total transformation from analog to HD within the coming year or so, I do see the Al Falaj Hotel taking further steps in this direction, especially with Hikvision digital cameras, and eventually replacing the entire analog surveillance system with a high definition network.”
