SIA ‘Commitment to Regulation’ Conference: programme announced

The Regulator’s day-long ‘Commitment to Regulation’ event takes place on Wednesday 12 October at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel at Sheffield Park in Sheffield, and runs from 10.30 am through until 4.00 pm.

This event follows on from the previous conference in March this year, where the Security Industry Authority’s ‘blueprint’ for a new regulatory regime was outlined and discussed.

This time around, the day will consider the developing proposals for the new regulatory regime, outline progress made since the last conference and offer an opportunity to discuss the security requirements for the Olympic and Paralympics Games 2012.

Running order for the day

The programme has just been announced, and is as follows:

  • 10.30 am-10.40 am: Welcome from Dave Humphries (director of compliance and enforcement, SIA)
  • 10.40 am-10.50 am: Keynote Speech by Baroness Ruth Henig (chairman, SIA)
  • 10.50 am-11.00 am: Video message courtesy of Lynne Featherstone MP (Home Office minister)
  • 11.00 am-11.30 am: ‘SIA Proposals for the Future’ (Hazel Russell, director of transition, SIA)
  • 11.30 am-noon: ‘Delivering Services Fit for the Future’ (Steve McCormick, director of service delivery, SIA)
  • Noon-1.15 pm: Breakout Group Discussions

Session 1: ACS and the Future of the Hallmark

Session 2: Individual Applications – The Challenge for Employers

  • 1.15 pm-2.15 pm: Luncheon and networking
  • 2.15 pm-2.30 pm: ‘The Security Alliance’ (James Kelly, CEO, BSIA)
  • 2.30 pm-2.50 pm: ‘Joining Up Regulation’ (The CCTV Regulator, Home Office)
  • 2.50 pm-3.10 pm: ‘Olympic Security: How Will It Affect You?’ (representative from LOCOG)
  • 3.10 pm-3.30 pm: ‘Serious and Organised Crime in the Private Security Industry’ (representative from SOCA)
  • 3.30 pm-3.45 pm: Closing remarks from Bill Butler (CEO, SIA)

How to book your place

The delegate fee is GB pound 78.50 +vat at 20% for the day (total cost GB pound 94.20) and includes registration, lunch and refreshments.

The fee has been set at a cost recovery basis only, with no profit margin. Please note that the fee cannot be refunded once your booking has been confirmed. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Regulator will not take any bookings after 28 September 2011
