Security Excellence Awards 2011 preview: International Achievement and Contribution to Standards

The 2011 Security Excellence Awards take place on Wednesday October 19 at London’s Park Lane Hilton. Find out more about the SEAs here.

International Achievement Award – sponsored by Securitas Security Services

This award is for a UK company or individual that has demonstrated an outstanding achievement or improvement in international sales or exports, or has been instrumental in a significant security application or project outside of the UK

Advanced Glass Technology

AGT was appointed to install protective solar control film at the United Nations Refugee Works Association building in Amman, Jordan. The client was concerned that the new building lacked secure glazing protection and also suffered from extremely high internal temperatures, particularly during summer, resulting in excessively high costs for air conditioning use and maintenance. AGT’s solution was the application of 300 Micron blast mitigation film to all glazed areas. The film features a silver 15% solar reflective coating.

CNL Software

International projects won in the last 12 months include a contract in Washington DC where the solution is described as “one of the most advanced Homeland Defence systems in use today”. IPSecurityCenter provides the integration and management platform to bring together security systems from manufacturers including Cisco, Pelco, GE, Dedicated Micros, Bosch, ActiVu and ShotSpotter. Other contracts have been won with IBM (again in the US), the Georgia Port Authority (one of the largest Stateside) and Wipro India.

CornerStone

2010-2011 has been CornerStone’s most successful year so far in terms of international sales. Orders amounting to nearly GB pound 1 million of projects outside the UK will result in annual revenues consisting of international sales worth 40%. Past successes have enabled the CornerStone team to punch well above its weight with a succession of major contract wins that have further established the company as a truly global business. This year has seen projects undertaken for the first time in Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and the Ukraine.

IndigoVision

IndigoVision has seen considerable growth in its international business. The company boasts sales and support staff in 24 countries underpinning its 300-plus authorised systems integrators who provide design and installation services to end users. IndigoVision operates from six centres – in New Jersey, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Dubai, London and its headquarters in Edinburgh – complete with training facilities and demo suites. IndigoVision’s technology is providing end-to-end surveillance for one of the world’s largest integrated oil and gas projects: Sakhalin-2 in the Russian Far East.

Texecom

In the financial year ending March 2011, for the first time Texecom’s export sales grew to account for over 50% of its total turnover. At GB pound 13 million, export sales have increased by over 40% in the last four years, and risen from less than 40% of turnover at the beginning of that period. With growth of over 21% last year alone, Texecom continues to gain market share in almost every territory in which it operates. The company exported to 92 different countries last year and added sales resources in China, India and North America.

Contribution to Standards in the Security Sector – sponsored by the National Security Inspectorate

A new category this year, the Contribution to Standards Award will be presented to the individual, team or organisation deemed to have made a significant contribution to the implementation or enhancement of security sector standards within their own – or a client – organisation, or alternatively across the security sector in general.

In 2011, the award is bestowed in honour of John Clifford.

Advance Security UK

The creation of the Advance Security CSR Steering Group back in 2007 marked the beginning of three years of strategic planning and effort aimed at achieving key accreditations – ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and BS 25999 – which the company now holds. These standards were selected to demonstrate a firm commitment to office and site-based employees, customers and prospective clients alike. Advance Security UK is presently the only professional security organisation to have secured the named standards.

Community Action and Support Against Crime (CASAC)

Community Action and Support Against Crime is committed to fitting approved door and window security solutions for domestic properties in West Yorkshire, the overriding aim being to reduce burglary across the region. The organisation offers a free home security assessment for residents whereby properties are inspected by one of four police-approved security engineers. All locks fitted meet the new TS007 standard. As a result, repeat burglary rates are just 0.01% on over 55,000 properties ‘target hardened’ by CASAC.

Colin Moore (Unipart Security Solutions)

When Colin Moore took charge of Unipart Security Solutions there were no accreditation standards in place across the business yet it was operating a security Control Room from which it sold services and was on the cusp of introducing a guarding business. Moore put together a business case for a brand new, fully-accredited ARC. That ARC is now NSI Gold-approved. The company also sits in the top quartile for the SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme, has joined the BSIA and Moore serves as vice-chairman of its Guarding Section.

Raymond Clarke (Industry Qualifications)

For over 20 years, Raymond Clarke has played a central and pivotal role in the development of security sector education. He founded SITO in 1990 and headed up that organisation until 2002. Raymond introduced and pioneered the entry of City & Guilds, the NOCN, Edexcel and IQ and developed a strategy resulting in the delivery of over 200,000 national qualifications for security in advance of SIA regulation. In addition, Raymond founded SAFE which duly became the first industry training provider to offer nationally-recognised awards for the trainers themselves. A true security sector champion.

Wilson James

Security solutions provider Wilson James is widely recognised by both customers and competitors as a leader when it comes to setting high standards in the guarding arena. The company is a committed supporter of the NSI’s Contract Quality Marque, and has attained this honour on five contracts. Its adoption of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 confirm a desire to apply the best possible standards as the norm. Wilson James has held Investors in People accreditation since 2003 and is a staunch advocate of the Working Time Directive.
