Mistletoe and crime: Offices at risk over Christmas
Like many office workers, the info4security team will be taking a break next week and indulging in a little festive cheer.
We are fortunate enough to work in an office with a dedicated security team. We could hardly bring you all this excellent coverage without security of our own, could we?
However, a third of businesses will be at risk of crime this Christmas, according to DW-OZ Security, as thieves take advantage of the estimated 50% of closed offices between Christmas and New Year.
With two bank holidays reducing the working week, millions of workers will be taking a few additional days off and not coming back until January 3rd.
Without basic security measures such as secure windows and doors, DW-OZ managing director, Daniel Warwick has warned that small businesses in particular are at risk of being targeted by thieves.
The Manchester-based company carried out an audit of businesses in the city to come to their conclusions.
Mr Warwick said: “Security probably isn’t on a lot of people’s minds in the run up to Christmas, but it’s vital that appropriate measures are taken by businesses to protect their premises in the festive season.
“Most offices are home to thousands of pounds worth of equipment, which will always be attractive to thieves, and soft targets can be easily identified. Taking simple steps to secure windows and entrances will deter would-be thieves and more advanced measures, such as alarmed response and CCTV systems, will add another level of protection.”
With that said, everyone at info4security.com would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy, and safe, Christmas and New Year.
