BSIA honours close protection personnel

The latest addition in the Trade Association’s awards portfolio is sponsored by Camberford Law plc and will be presented alongside the Security Personnel Awards, the Cash and Valuables in Transit Special Awards, the Apprentice Installer Awards and the BSIA Chairman’s Awards at the prestigious Annual Luncheon to be held on 27 June at the London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.

Mike O’Neill, chairman of the Close Protection Section of the BSIA, commented: “We’re very excited about the opportunity given to us by the BSIA to showcase the great talent available within our industry.”

He continued: “Every day we see close protection operatives provide excellent service to their customers, deal with particularly challenging or dangerous situations or generally go above and beyond the call of duty, so nominating these outstanding individuals is a great way to say ‘Thank You’ for their work and commitment.”

In conclusion, O’Neill explained: “Moreover, with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to the UK this summer, the UK’s close protection industry has the perfect platform to demonstrate the high levels of professionalism that characterises it. These awards serve as further evidence of the BSIA Close Protection Section members’ commitment towards promoting quality and excellence in our field.”

Popular BSIA Information Destruction event to return in 2012

Following the great success of the June 2011 event, the British Security Industry Association is pleased to announce the return of its Information Destruction Exhibition and Conference.

This will run on 30 May 2012 at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham. Early bird delegate rates are available until 29 February, and interested parties are encouraged to book soon to make the most of the discounted prices!

The one-day event, aimed at key decision-makers in organisations that carry out the secure destruction of confidential material, will feature a stimulating conference programme and a comprehensive exhibition. Delegates will have an opportunity to see a host of products and services related to their industry.

Speakers confirmed so far include accomplished sales trainer Mark Wormald (from the Sandler Sales Institute) and Martin Hutchins of the Cambridge Professional Academy. Hutchins will return to the event to build upon last year’s popular session on marketing techniques to cover ‘Modern Media Marketing’, including discussions on social networking, social media and offline networking.

Other presentations will provide delegates with a perspective from a number of representatives from the sector’s supply-chain, including the view from a representative of a paper mill and an end user.

The event will then conclude with a Q&A session involving four industry experts and then a drinks reception.

On the same evening, a networking dinner will be organised for delegates and exhibitors wishing to attend, providing a further opportunity to ‘connect’. Requests for more information on the networking dinner can be made at the time of booking.

Important element of the security sector’s calendar

Anthony Pearlgood, chairman of the BSIA’s Information Destruction Section, commented: “Every year the BSIA and the Information Destruction Section work very hard to further build on the success and quality of this event, which has grown to become an important highlight in the calendar of many industry professionals. For 2012, we have listened to the feedback from last year’s delegates and exhibitors and duly adjusted the format to better reflect their wishes, extending the duration of the event and providing more opportunities for networking.”

He added: “At a time when data breaches and effective disposal of information are becoming increasingly newsworthy, it’s important for the whole of our industry to stay one step ahead of developments in technologies and processes and understand the requirements and concerns affecting our supply chain. I look forward to welcoming both BSIA members and non-members to the event.”

Darren Brown (who attended last year’s event as a non-member and recently joined the BSIA’s Information Destruction Section) explained: “The 2011 Information Destruction Conference and Exhibition provided me with a unique opportunity to network and exchange experiences with a number of key industry players, as well as learn about what the rest of the sector is doing to ensure the continuous development of our industry.”

He went on to state: “It also allowed me to find out more about the work of the BSIA, further consolidating my interest in joining the Association. Now, six months into my membership, I’m really looking forward to attending this year’s event and, in the longer term, continuing to be involved in the activities of the Information Destruction Section.”

The BSIA would like to thank this year’s headline sponsors – Global Recycling T/A, Shred-Tech UK and Vecoplan – for their support.

A limited number of exhibitor spaces are still available. For more information about the event, delegate rates or to book a delegate or exhibition space visit the information Destruction Conference and Exhibition page on the Trade Association’s website.
