Capita acquires The Security Watchdog
The Security Watchdog, of course, is a leading provider of security and compliance services in the fields of employer consultancy and pre-employment and employment screening, and currently employs over 100 people.
The Hampshire-based organisation boasts around 150 clients from a range of sectors including financial services, pharmaceuticals, communications and other large corporations and provides services across 56 countries and territories.
It’s estimated that the UK market for outsourced screening services is currently worth around GB pound 75 million per annum, but that total’s expected to grow as regulation and risk management increase in scope and focus for UK firms.
Commenting on the deal, Dawn Marriott-Sims – head of Capita’s workplace services division – explained: “KPMG research published earlier this year suggests that more than GB pound 2 billion is lost in UK business every year because of management and employee fraud in Britain, yet the market for employee screening is currently dominated by overseas firms.”
Marriott-Sims continued: “The acquisition of The Security Watchdog and its integration into Capita will enable us to provide a full service solution to private and public sector employers alike. The move offers genuine synergies with our existing screening and recruitment business, and will provide our clients with further opportunities to secure more services from Capita.”
In addition, Marriott-Sims stated the deal will allow Capita to bid, independently, for large-scale screening and vetting contracts.
Sharing the same ethos
Susie Thomson, managing director at The Security Watchdog, has also commented on the deal with Capita. “Capita plc is a world class company,” said Thomason, “which is continually developing a wide range of high quality support services. We believe The Security Watchdog will be a perfect fit with the Group’s overall offering. We share the same service delivery ethos, which can only bring more value to both existing and new clients.”
Consultancy business The Silver Fox is not part of the deal, it should be noted. This division will continue to be operated by Terry O’Neill, outgoing chairman of The Security Watchdog.
Capita plc is a leading UK provider of BPO and integrated professional support service solutions. With 46,500 people based at more than 320 sites, including 64 business centres across Europe and India, the Group uses its expertise, infrastructure and scale benefits to transform its clients’ services, driving down costs and adding value.
Capita is quoted on the London Stock Exchange (CPI.L), and is a constituent of the FTSE 100. 2011 turnover weighed in at GB pound 2.9 billion and profit before tax is reported to be GB pound 385 million.
