The contract will involve Arriva operating 550 buses, 45 trains and 37 trams/light trains. 21st Century is Arriva’s preferred supplier for all their on board CCTV and passenger counting system requirements in this fleet.
GB pound 2.7m of the contract value will be delivered in the current year, and followed by one year’s maintenance and five years’ software hosting. 21st Century is optimistic that there is further scope for collaboration within this multi-modal transport system.
21st Century’s international director of sales, Mark Johnson, said: “We have an established technical capability in Sweden and we are looking forward to working alongside the vehicle manufacturers to install this cutting edge technology.
“Our passenger counting solution is integrated within the bus and uses sensors above each door to accurately count passengers boarding and alighting and then transmit the passenger volume data by route and time to a back-office internet application.
“In addition, our solution can be used to monitor real time vehicle loads. This information is invaluable if operators wish to vary services quickly and efficiently in response to actual passenger volumes.”
