State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

I4S video: IFSEC Centre Stage 2012 – David Thorne (BT Innovate and Design)

The copper access telephony network has moved way beyond its original intended purpose. It now supports high-speed broadband services and, at the other end of the spectrum, low frequency security and utility applications.

However, given the massive increase in wireless broadband, not to mention the rapid deployment of fibre-rich ‘Next Generation’ access technologies, does the fixed copper network have a long-term future?

Beginning with an overview of current UK networks both fixed and mobile, David Thorne’s presentation at IFSEC International will proceed to outline current developments and possible future directions while also assessing their impact on the security sector.

This session at conference runs under the banner ‘The Future of Network Communication: Fixed and Mobile’ and takes place in the IFSEC Centre Stage area – a brand new educational feature located in Hall 5 at the NEC – on Thursday 17 May from noon until 1.00 pm.

Future for fixed location-based services

In this exclusive pre-show video interview with Brian Sims – media solutions manager for UBM Live’s Security and Fire Portfolio – David Thorne addresses the future for fixed location-based services, and assesses whether or not there are any reasons why the security profession might want to consider broadband as part of an overall protection regime.
