Coca-Cola Security Cameras ad shows happy side to surveillance

CCTV systems and surveillance cameras are usually used to prevent or catch bad behaviour, but as we try to portray in some of our articles, they also catch all manner of other things, including happy events.

Coca-Cola has taken this as the inspiration for an ad that has gone viral across the web, with a good news message.

Made up of a selection of clips from surveillance cameras around the world the ad features activities like people stealing kisses, dealers of ‘potato chips’, attacks of friendship and friendly gangs.

Commissioned for Coca-Cola’s Latin American arm, the ad just received an award at Spanish advertising festival El Sol, for best TV ad in the non-alcoholic category.

Creative director behind the advert Marin Mercado said, “People tend to associate security cameras with negative events, but we wanted to disprove that assumption by demonstrating the abundance of happy events and actions they capture.”

The ad finishes on the tag line “Let’s look at the world a little differently,” followed by the ubiquitous Coca-Cola bottle.

Opinions on the advert are split as ever. One user wrote in the comments section, “Faith in humanity replenished!” while another wrote, “I thought this video was about how good the world is … until I realise [it’s] just Coca Cola using viral videos to market their company and make more money.”

It’s already got over 4 million views. Check it out for yourself below, as a little Friday treat. Does it bring a smile to your face, or does the Coca-Cola message make you angry? Let us know!
