CCTV: Chefs attempt to defend Michelin-starred restaurant from rioters
CCTV caught the moment last August when a gang of men and youths attacked the Michelin-starred restaurant The Ledbury, in Kensington, West London.
The gang of sixteen attacked the prestigious restaurant on Ledbury Road during the height of last summer’s disturbances and ordered diners to “get down on the floor”.
The incident was caught on CCTV and shows staff trying to fight the gang off armed with kitchen utensils.
The Metropolitan Police explained how the gang members, wielding bottles and sticks, took cash, jewellery and personal property from the mostly affluent clientele.
Among the items stolen was a wedding ring stolen from a woman’s hand.
As well as being convicted of robbery of staff and customers at the Ledbury, the gang were also convicted of six other charges including conspiracy to burgle and conspiracy to commit violent disorder.
The anniversary of last August’s riots was this week, and police will have been relieved to see it pass peacefully, with the capital hosting the world’s media for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
