Crowd safety management professionals graduate
The work-based BA (Hons) and foundation degrees are believed to be the first degree courses in the world to focus on crowd safety and are delivered through a blend of workshops and online learning.
This year’s graduates were the first to complete the honours degree course.
The two cohorts graduated alongside 1,500 students and honorary graduates in ceremonies between 3 September and 7 September.
The courses are open to all those working within crowd and event management or associated professions, such as the emergency services and local authority event licensing.
Bucks New University is the home of the International Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies and students on both the BA (Hons) and foundation degrees are taught by leading industry figures including: Tony Ball, managing director of show & event security; Mark Hamilton, director of events at G4S; and Dr Mick Upton, founding chairman of Showsec International.
Dr Upton, head of the International Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies, said: “The crowd safety management foundation degree course has once again provided a creditable award for a cohort of talented crowd management practitioners.
“The 2012 graduates will go on to aid the efforts of previous graduates from the course that are working hard at international level to introduce a common approach to crowd safety planning at organised social events.
“We also saw an exciting development in the graduation of the first cohort to gain a BA Honours in crowd safety management.”
