Approved fire door centres

[

A new fire safety initiative is seeing the creation of British Woodworking Federation approved fire door centres at 30 branches of Wolseley UK’s Build Center chain.

approved by the bwf-certifire scheme, each branch has installed specially designed merchandising units for a range of fire door components, positioned alongside fire doors. Staff have been trained by the BWF on all aspects of fire doors, from building regulations to the importance of the compatibility of the components in a door assembly.

The approved centres will stock an increased range of certified fire doors, ironmongery and intumescent seals, and refresher training for staff will be provided.

“Fire door compliance can be a complicated issue,” said Wolseley product development manager Andy Sawer. “Trained staff at our BWF approved fire door centres will be able to guide our customers through the regulations, providing them with all the technical advice they need, to ensure that the products they buy from us are compatible and right for their application.”

Wolseley’s is the first national builders’ merchant to have the fire door centres in its branches. Scott Marshall, manager of the BWF-Certifire scheme said: “This is a ground breaking initiative from Wolseley. It leads the way in the merchandising of fire doors and components, helping to simplify the process for their customers through one-to-one advice at the point of sale.”

l Membership of the BWF-Certifire fire door and doorset scheme has risen by 26% since the start of the year. This includes three new manufacturers and six licensed converters, certificated to process fire doors by adding frames, or cutting and glazing vision panels within the parameters of the door manufacturer’s original design and test evidence.

“The scheme is growing steadily because companies are recognising the importance of obtaining a guarantee for the product they are using through certification and regular auditing,” said Scott Marshall, manager of the BWF-Certifire scheme.
