A radio based alarm system for the deaf and hard of hearing has been installed at Manchester’s G-MEX and International Convention Centre. The installation is part of a GB pound 500,000 programme to make the venue more accessible to disabled visitors and employees.
The Deaf Alerter system links to the site’s existing fire panel. The system will alert anyone carrying a small, hand-held unit by vibrating and displaying the appropriate warning message in the event of a fire, or other emergency situation.
Just as the Multiple Sclerosis Society selected G-MEX as the venue for its national event, Deaf Alerter anticipates that other disabled and non-disabled organisations will only want to select venues accessible for all, like G-MEX and the ICC.
