This year’s winner of the Association of Building Engineers’ Fire Safety Award is David Simmonds of Surefire Systems.
David won the award for his role in developing Surefire’s watermist system, Scotchmist, to a sufficient standard to meet London Underground requirements for automatic fire suppression on escalators. He received his certificate from ABE president, David B Smith, at a ceremony in London.
This year also saw a highly commended certificate awarded to Bill Jackson, property director for the National Library for Scotland. He was commended for his risk assessment work of the Library and its valuable contents, and for obtaining necessary improvements to the building while ensuring the support of interested parties.
