Code Blue – new ductwork guidance

[

The second edition of the Blue Book, now entitled Fire Resisting Ductwork, has been published by the Association for Specialist Fire Protection.

The publication is referred to in Approved Document B and is aimed at guiding specifiers about the correct design and installation of fire resisting ductwork.

The new edition has sections on ductwork for mechanical smoke ventilation systems, smoke extraction systems and kitchen extract systems. It discusses the functions of different duct types; gives information on relevant legislation, standards and codes of practice; and provides notes on the importance of using related fire tested penetration seals and fire resisting support systems. It also includes new rules for the Direct & Extended Application of fire test data arising from BS 476 Part 24: 1987 tests and therefore provides a basis for establishing similar DIAP/EXAP rules for future European EN fire test data.

For the first time, the Blue Book also includes data sheets on fire resisting ductwork systems, all of which have been suitably fire tested and assessed by UKAS approved test laboratories, as well as reviewed by the ASFP Technical Review Panel.

Copies can be downloaded from www.asfp.org.uk.
