The British Security Industry Association and Fire Industry Association have launched a joint fire and security strategic committee to look at common issues in the two sectors. The committee was formed through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2007 at IFSEC.
The first project for the committee is a review of the National Occupational Standard for the sectors, and to look at revising the existing NVQs.
“The committee has been formed as both our organisations have a commitment to raising standards and fostering professionalism,” said Martin Duggan, general manager of the Fire Industry Association. “We will share resources and information on issues which affect the fire and security sectors and this should bring real benefits to our members.”
BSIA technical and membership services director, Alex Carmichael, added: “There is a lot of synergy between the fire and security industries and it makes sense for the leading trade associations for each sector to work closely together on common issues. I look forward to forging an even stronger relationship with the FIA and to working on projects which will benefit both our industries.”
