FIREX SOUTH CONFERENCES 11-12 March

[

A new approach to conference sessions is one of the highlights of Firex South to be held at Sandown Park exhibition centre, Surrey from 11-12 March. Rather than limiting the sessions to exhibiting companies, speakers and presenters have been drawn from the wider world of fire safety .

The emphasis is on giving delegates – whether end users, consultants or contractors – authoritative and independent information and advice. The conference will take the form of four 3-hour modules, each focused on a different area of fire safety.

Recent high profile fires and legal proceedings have highlighted the lack of fire safety knowledge in many organisations around the country. With the introduction of more comprehensive fire safety legislation and regulation, there is a greater onus on employers and building managers to take overall responsibility for the safety of the occupants on or around their premises. Because of this, the whole of Module A is devoted to the impact of the Regulatory Reform Order. Speakers from AXA Insurance and Browne Jacobson solicitors will explain the consequences of non-compliance – which can include possible imprisonment, increased insurance premiums and ultimately, loss of life – and will advise on how to help meet your legal and insurance obligations.

Module B focuses on building fire safety and evacuation procedures. Presentations from Bill Parlor, technical officer of the Association of Specialist Fire Protection, and David Charters, director of fire engineering at BRE, will give building managers advice on creating and managing appropriate fire safety evacuation plans, with special emphasis on plans to meet individual needs, including specialised ones for disabled and dependent people.

Enhancing fire safety using sprinklers is the title of Module C, and is designed to bring you up to date on the latest thinking and applications of this increasingly high profile technology. Speakers include Martin Shipp, technical development director at BRE, and Steve Mills of the fire safety policy team at West Midlands Fire Service.

Module D is aimed squarely at installation and contracting companies. The installers’ masterclass will provide you with advice and tips on how to achieve diversification and profitable growth, how to work with fire detection and alarm systems under BS 5839 Part1, and will also provide an insight into the standard for voice alarms – BS 5839 Part 8.

Each conference module is GB pound 195 + VAT, with discounts of GB pound 45, GB pound 90 and GB pound 135 if you book two, three or all four modules respectively. For more information and to book online, email: [email protected] or visit www.firexroadshows.co.uk.
