The finals of a competition to promote safe and healthy cooking, organised by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s Safety Central, took place at a tasting spectacular earlier this month.
Shortlisted dishes were served up by chefs from British Gas catering provider, Eurest Services, at an event held at the British Gas Academy in Leeds. Chefs Simon Shaw of Elgato Negro Tapas in Halifax, and Simon Rogers of the Boars Nest in Hull, led the judging.
The winners, their dishes and categories were:
Lewis Sterling: Traffic Light Fruit Sticks (dishes aimed at children and young people)
Joanne and Phil Davenport: Easy Beef Stew (older people)
Becky Gill: Beef and Aubergine Bake (busy families and best overall recipe)
Holly Pullan: Roasted Bangers, Wedges and Veg, (students).
Prizes included luxury hampers and inclusion in a series of recipe books to be produced later this year.
Safety Central is the centre of excellence for safety awareness and education, led by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service working in partnership with local agencies, organisations and communities across the county.
