60 firefighters battle huge fire at oil storage depot
Around 60 firefighters battled through the night to extinguish a fire at an oil storage depot in Kent.
Crews were called to Kingsnorth Industrial Estate, in Hoo, Kent, at 11 pm on Friday.
The fire was on open ground and involved two road tankers. It spread to 1,000 litre plastic oil storage containers and 200 litre steel oil drums in the storage yard, causing burning oil to flow onto adjacent land that had been cleared for development.
Special appliances were brought in to fight the blaze including three foam units, compressed air foam appliances, a high volume pump, a height vehicle and crews from around the county.
Firefighters worked to prevent the fire spreading to three nearby industrial units, while others surrounded the fire using the foam units. The fire was brought under control at 5.45 am the next day.
Graham Gash, area manager from Kent Fire and Rescue, said: “Crews have done a great job in fighting this serious fire and successfully managing to prevent it spreading further and damaging nearby buildings.
“We worked alongside our partners, from the London Fire Brigade and Essex Fire and Rescue Service, and I think praise goes to everyone for a job well done.”

Fires are fortuitous events. This is why there is a need to have your items insured, if not through our service provider but your own. Storage companies require such insure before you go into an agreement, and it is good to have your items protected. Apart from that, we also need to see the item declaration to ensure that our storage facility is safe in taking your goods.
