Salisbury church severely damaged by fire

Around 30 firefighters fought a serious fire at a church in Salisbury last week.

Crews were called to the blaze at St Francis Church just before 3.30pm on 10 June.

The church’s hall, which is a separate building on site measuring 40 by 10 sq m, was well alight. It is thought it was caused by faulty electrics. The building, which is used as a pre-school, was empty at the time.

Three main jets, two hose reel jets and a water tower from the aerial appliance were used to tackle the blaze, which was extinguished by 5pm.

Around 30% of the building was severely damaged by fire, with the remainder affected by heat and smoke, according to Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
