Woman arrested on arson charge following tower block fire
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a 22-storey tower block in Swindon.
Crews were called to the David Murray John Building just before 8 am on 9 July.
On arrival, they discovered a severe fire in a flat on the 17th floor.
A total of five pumping appliances attended the incident, supported by an aerial appliance and an incident command vehicle.
The female occupier of the flat was rescued by crews, before being taken to Great Western Hospital by ambulance.
A parrot was also rescued from the flat by firefighters, who managed to put the fire out at around 11am. While the blaze was contained, adjacent flats suffered smoke damage.
