Police investigate bus depot fire

Police are investigating after a suspicious fire at a bus depot destroyed three buses worth £120,000.

Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue service received 25 calls reporting the fire at Paignton bus station on Monday morning.

Three appliances were able to control the fire which destroyed two double deckers and one single decker bus worth up to £120,000, according to police.

Devon & Conrwall Police said: “A joint investigation [with the fire service] will be taking place into the cause of the fire which is being treated as suspected arson.”

Engineering director Mike Bishop, from bus operator Stagecoach who manage the depot, said that police were investigating CCTV images of the blaze.

Speaking to local newspaper the Herald Express, he said: "We have got CCTV images of the bus station and we believe they show somebody here at the time of the fire.

"The police have taken the CCTV away to have a closer look as part of their investigation.

"It is not uncommon for people to break into buses and cause damage, although why they do it is a mystery."
