Tavcom Resettlement Division to Ease Transition from Military to Security Career

Tavcom has formed a new division focused on smoothing the transition of ex-military personnel into the security sector.

The move from the armed forces – and indeed the police force – into the private security sector is a well-worn career path. Many of those leaving the forces have the transferable skills and attributes necessary to thrive in the security sector.

However, with security an increasingly professionalised field demanding a widening range of skills, the transition from the battlefield to a senior corporate security role is perhaps not as simple as it used to be.

Mindful of this, Tavcom is providing Tavcom BTEC-accredited training and career progression advice to anyone emerging from the forces with an interest in a career in security.

The Tavcom Resettlement package seeks to supplement the wealth of resettlement support already on offer to ex-military personnel.

Chris Pinder will head up the new Tavcom Resettlement division after joining the company in October.

“There are a number of initiatives such as Engineers of Tomorrow raising the profile of security as a progressive and rewarding profession,” he says.

“However, there is still so much more that the security sector can do to proactively promote itself as a rewarding career choice.

“We are therefore very excited about what we can achieve through this initiative.  By focusing on ex-forces personnel, Tavcom Resettlement will be making a significant investment in directing the talent leaving HM Forces to ‘think security’.

“We are keen to speak to any employers who are looking to recruit for security systems and security management related positions.”

Says Tavcom MD Paul Tennent: “This unique resettlement support initiative is a natural extension to our training activities. It means that we can help hone the skills of forces personnel towards a security environment, enabling them to be job-ready and a valuable asset for their new employers from day one.”

The Tavcom Resettlement division will target those who have recently left the forces or are planning to do so.

“It is important to emphasise that Tavcom Resettlement is a transition process  not a recruitment agency,” says Tennent.

“We will not be dealing with those already employed in the security sector who may simply be looking to transfer to new positions. However, we are keen to work with employers in the security sector by way of introducing them to a fresh pool of skilled and technically astute potential candidates.”
