State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Buoyant access control market continues to grow

The value of the access sector market in the UK is expected to increase by 3 per cent in real terms to GB pound 761 million (at 2007 prices) in 2012.

The UK Access Control Market Development report, published by MBD, says the value of the market – including sales and rental income – has increased each year since 2003 with annual growth levels peaking at 7 per cent in 2004. The value of the sector is now estimated at GB pound 664 million.

The report says the sector “has remained one of the most buoyant sectors of the alarm and systems market during recent years, largely reflecting the development of more sophisticated and higher value systems.

“Furthermore, demand has been generated by the heightened perceived threat of terrorism which has increased the focus on security in commercial and public buildings.

“Insurance requirements have also become more stringent in recent years, increasing demand for access control equipment.”

Increased construction output in the commercial sector has also contributed to steady growth.

Online network systems are expected to be the biggest driver in growth of the sector to 2012 and to command the strongest share at 50 per cent of the total. There will be increasing demand for integrated systems.

Audio video entry equipment will account for the second largest share of the sector at a “relatively static” 34 per cent.

The importance of stand alone systems will contract from 18 per cent in 2008 to 16 per cent in 2012, predicts the report.

The MBD report is priced GB pound 600. Details at www.mbdltd.co.uk
