DDS ‘Travel Tag’ launched

DDS is launching a patented ‘Travel Tag’ and a handheld device that sends an SMS when your bag is lost and found, at IFSEC India 2013. Though the idea of baggage tags was first patented in 1882, and in 1929 the Warsaw Convention established the criteria for issuing baggage tickets for checked in baggage and establishing the limit of liability on checked in baggage, the current airline baggage tag with barcode printed on it does not offer much relief to passengers in case of lost or misplaced baggage.

The baggage tracking process starts only after the passenger complaints. It is not possible to quickly inform the passenger of its location, or when the baggage will be received. This causes lot of confusion and arguments. DDS ‘Travel Tag’ provides a simple and cost effective solution. It stores the mobile number in a safe and secured manner in the Travel Tag. When lost and found, an SMS is sent to the passenger giving the location and contact number just by touching the DDS hand held reader to the travel tag.

Secondly, if you own an NFC enabled smart phone, then you can identify your bag on the carousal just by touching your NFC phone to the DDS travel tag. On identifying the bag the phone announces “Eureka – Eureka.”

DDS is showcasing a range of handheld devices and a complete green solution that is implemented using these handheld devices. These devices have a built in LCD display with white backlight and black letters for stress-free viewing and reading. A 15 key keypad adds to the functionality for data entry and easy selection of predefined menus. The devices are enclosed in ABS plastic and are tested for free fall on concrete from a height of 1 meter. A 1000mAhr lithium ion battery lasts for about 2,000 readings.

DDS offers ‘Plug & Play’ software for transferring the data form handheld device to a PC. The ‘Plug & Play’ adds extra value since even an unskilled employee is able to transfer data. Optionally, the device supports GPRS for on line data transfer to web servers for time critical applications.

Other applications of DDS handheld readers are guard tour monitoring, portable attendance, delivery terminal, classroom attendance, laptop tracking, asset tracking, pay & park, vehicle tracking and many more.
