Based over 6km at an altitude of 10,000ft in a remote location, where temperatures can reach as low as -40 deg C, the gold mine presented an interesting challenge, especially as the chosen verification method was fingerprint biometrics.
Workers are on a two-week shift pattern, meaning they remain onsite for two weeks, so high end security was required. Using the existing wireless network, 35 BioProx readers were installed, including three external units that have been mounted within V-Cerco housings, which provide the temperature range required for this extreme environment.
IC-2000 controllers are located at various clusters around the site, with TCP/IP extensions and other controllers connected via RS-485. The safe room where the gold is held is protected via a man trap, and neither door will operate unless two people are present, at least one of which must be a supervisor, using the escort/supervisor feature in the GuardPoint Pro access software.
