Testing solution
Astratec electronics has launched the BZT1, a new rapid battery testing solution which it says gives accurate readings on the condition of 12v sealed lead acid batteries in just ten seconds.
Astratec says it gives field engineers and service departments a simple and reliable way to instantly check the performance of batteries used in a diverse range of applications. The BZT1 uses scanning and monitoring technologies to check the condition of a wide range of sealed lead acid batteries, from 10 to 100Ah.
Two versions are available. The basic BZT1 stores the results of the last 40 tests, and can output individual results to an optional portable printer, while the BZT1 PC enables service departments to maintain computer-based records of every completed test.

Mobile options
Legic has debuted its applications embedded in mobile phones, based on Near Field Communication technology. This means being able to open doors, paying at vending machines, buying a ticket for the public bus or getting access to a fitness centre using only a phone.
“End users will be able to use their mobile phones the same way as they use their multi-functional badge cards today,” Legic says. The all-in-one card technology of Legic is planned to be available on leading third party smart card based NFC mobile phones, provided and supported by major network operators.
The system, based on JavaCard technology, is planned to work with over 2000 different applications from a partner network of over 200 Legic licensees.

Radio extra
System Sensor has launched a stand alone radio-based system extension to the traditional Series 200 Plus wired system.
The addressable system consists of a gateway module that extends the wired system on the loop, by translating the radio detector’s address into a wired equivalent. Up to 98 radio call points and 99 radio detectors can be addressed through each module, each detector being seen as a unique address by the panel.
The unit’s range is 300m in free air, with automatic frequency and channel changing through channel monitoring guaranteeing robust communications between the module and devices. The stand alone control panel control up to 32 detectors or call points in two fire zones.

Vandals beware
BSB Electronics has released a new vandal-proof keyboard and reader from its Progeny range of access control products.
BSB says they are “tough, weatherproof and resistant to attack by vandals, making them ideal for applications in outdoor areas, including exposed locations and wet environments”. Backlit buttons make access code entry in the dark simple, while an integral sounder provides key beeps and a ‘prolonged door open’ alarm function.
Both the reader and keyboard are available for multi-door online systems and as stand alone, self-contained controller key pads.

Dome stocked
Genie CCTV is now stocking the LPT-EP553PS day/night high speed dome from LG, which it says is ideal for use in a wide range of applications.
It features a 520TVL Sony Super HAD day/night module equipped with an IR cut filter, and operates in varying lighting conditions down to 0.005 lux. The camera has a zoom capability of up 27x optical and 2x digital, and further features include digital slow shutter, wide dynamic range, and electronic sensitivity control.
It also includes privacy masking, and three fully independent tours. The in-built ‘step motor’ makes the preset focus extremely accurate, and an ‘auto flip’ can rotate the dome 180 deg at the bottom of tilt travel. Signal to noise ratio is greater than 50dB, and with eight built-in alarm inputs and four alarm outputs the dome can instantly return to any of the alarm preset positions when an alarm is triggered.

Encoder debut
Pelco has launched its NET5308T video encoder, which is a high performance, dual-stream eight input unit, expandable to 16 inputs.
It is designed to optimise the use of network switch ports, and Pelco says it is ideal for applications with requirements for clusters of cameras. It converts live analogue video signals into dual MPEG-4 streams of high quality digital video at up to 30fps per stream, all while occupying a single port on the network switch.
It allows any analogue camera to easily integrate into Pelco Endura network-based video security system environments. It also uses motion adaptive deinterlacing technology to enhance image quality when planning and viewing live images.

On the box
Dallmeier has launched its new colour day/night box camera, the DF3000A-DN, which is a high resolution ultra-wide dynamic range camera featuring Cam_inPix technology.
“The ultra high dynamic range of the camera – up to 120dB – with its high-resolution sensor technology, at 540TVL, with 720 x 540 pixels, an aspherical CS varifocal lens, provides clear, colour-true and detailed pictures at all times, without any blooming or smearing,” Dallmeier says.
“Even in darkness, the DF3000A-DN provides good results thanks to its auto day/night capability. The camera also features the option of switching to black and white mode.”

Keycard launch
Paxton Access Limited has launched a new keycard for Net2Air, its hands-free access control solution, that offers a maximum range of up to 50m.
The new triple-function Net2Air keycard operates as a normal Net2 token, a normal Net2Air hands-free token on Net2Air-equipped doors and, by operating the keycard buttons, as a long range Net2Air access card. The keycard’s two buttons can be programmed to operate two different access points, such as ‘in’ and ‘out’ carpark barriers.
Pressing a button momentarily boosts the range of the keycard from a maximum of 2.5m (like a hands-free key fob) to a maximum range of up to 50m. To fit Net2Air to an existing Net2 installation simply requires the fitting of the Net2Air hands-free interface between the Net2 control unit and the reader.

Welcome to the IP dome
IndigoVision has launched a new fixed IP dome camera to complement its range of PTZ IP domes. The camera interfaces with IndigoVision’s ‘Control Center’ video and alarm management software and its range of NVRs.
The camera can be ceiling or wall mounted and uses a Sony Exview HAD CCD sensor. It uses IndigoVision’s MPEG-4 or H.264 encoder technology. The company says: “Analogue to digital conversion is completely eliminated with a direct digital interface from the camera sensor to the compression chip. This gives an image quality that is as good or better than analogue fixed domes.”
The camera only requires a single CAT 5 cable for connection to the network, and allows advanced features such as Activity Controlled Framerate, Power over Ethernet and camera-based analytics to be deployed in the dome itself.

Heavy duty dome
Panasonic’s new heavy duty WV-CW480 vandal-proof dome has an improved design that features waterproof properties over IP66, anti-shock Auto Back Focus and Super Dynamic III technology. The die cast aluminium body is covered with 3.5mm thick polycarbonate, combined with a spring mounted lens unit; the camera and the lens are heavily protected from any external shock it may encounter.
It includes a pixel-based 160x dynamic range that ensures objects on every area of the screen are reproduced faithfully by ‘Area Free Natural Contrast Image Correction’ which performs pixel based correction.
For continuous 24 hour surveillance, the WV-CW480 Series automatically switches from colour to back and white and increases sensitivity when the surrounding area becomes dark. The minimum illumination needed is 1.5 lux in colour and 0.16 lux in B/W mode.

More than a Stripper
ACT Meters’ latest product is the all-in-one Multi-Stripper+ cable stripper and cutter.
Durable and lightweight, it acts as a screwdriver with a reversible and magnetic bit that is both slot and cross headed. It also identifies the live wire by means of a neon indicator when AC voltage between 110 and 250 is present. For electrical, alarm and coaxial cables, the Multi-Stripper+’s handle unlocks to reveal a row of stripping ‘teeth’ and cutters. Both wires and cables of widths up to 13mm can be stripped and cut up to a thickness of 9mm.
ACT Meters MD David Grant said: “It combines a screwdriver, live volt tester, cable stripper and cutter in one handy tool.”

On the strand
Conway Security Products has introduced a new day/night camera with 26x optical zoom, used in its Strand dome.
The Strand was developed for areas of architectural sensitivity such as historic town centres where the where the units complement existing street furniture and building frontages, blending into the environment.
The camera and its control mechanism are fully integrated into the lighting enclosure.
A polycarbonate bubble has been created for the dome to ensure the camera travels parallel to the arc of the screen, so minimising picture distortion.
In addition, the Strand dome functions seamlessly on a wide variety of third-party control systems.
