BMW have announced a product recall of around 1.3m vehicles where a faulty battery cable could, in extreme cases, lead to fire.
Affected models are the 5 and 6 Series, built between 2003 and 2010.
Owners of the faulty vehicles will be informed by letter of the recall, and asked to bring their cars to an authorised dealer where a free of charge repair will be carried out, taking about 30 minutes.
The company said that it had no knowledge of anyone having been injured by the fault. This latest incident follows a recall of 235,000 Mini’s earlier this year.
In a statement, BMW group said, “In some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted.
“This can result in the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, to charring or fire.”
Around 109,000 of the 1.3m cars affected are in the UK.
