The Fire Industry Association announced today that it is planning on merging with the Fire and Rescue Suppliers Assocation (FIRESA).
FIRESA Chairman Derek Gotts called the plan “a natural progression” in a press release. FIA CEO Graham Ellicott said it was “a really positive move for both associations.”
Through this merger, the FIA will add a more significant element of fire and rescue service to its activities. This move is likely to complement the recent integration of the FIA’s export council into its main structure.
The FIA and FIRESA have shared secretariat services for the past eight years, so integrating the two associations should be a relatively straightforward process.
The FIA was formed in 2007 by combining the British Fire Protection Systems Association and the Fire Extinguishing Trades Association. The merger announced today will give FIRESA increased access to the FIA’s marketing and promotional activities.
Gotts said:
The FIA provides a robust mature trade body with structured additional resources and capabilities while FIRESA brings a strong and credible reputation that complements the FIA and will allow us to have a stronger joint voice to represent our members’ best interests.
The merger will formally take place April 2.
