The committee is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the organisations at this year’s IFSEC exhibition. The BSIA’s Technical and Membership Services Director, Alex Carmichael said that he is looking forward to forging a stronger relationship with the FIA. He said:
“There is a lot of synergy between the fire and security industries and it makes sense for the leading trade associations for each sector to work closely together on common issues”
Martin Duggan, the General Manager of the Fire Industry Association added,
“The committee has been formed as both our organisations have a commitment to raising standards and fostering professionalism. We will share resources and information on issues which affect the fire and security sectors and this should bring real benefits to our members.”
The BSIA has announced that the first projects for the committee include a review of the National Occupational Standard for the sectors and the possible revision of the existing NVQs.
