Jewel Fire Systems is partnering with SOS Africa helping fund its first UK office in Shepton Mallet.
The partnership involves Jewel helping equip the office, assisting with printing, fundraising and marketing.
SOS Africa is a charity that helps disadvantaged children in South Africa to attend school. The UK office will be run by a full-time member of staff and volunteers.
Co-founder of SOS Africa, Matt Crowcombe, first visited South Africa on his gap year in 2003 where he was teaching A-Level technology. The school he was working at was relatively well-off, but when a teacher at the school showed him around the area, he began to understand the extent of the poverty in the local township. Matt and Henry, the local teacher, decided to help a child from a particularly deprived family with the costs of education. Between the two of them, they paid for his school fees, travel and uniform expenses to attend Mafikeng primary school.
The partnership with Jewel means the charity can increase its UK and worldwide fundraising initiatives.
