The two-year contract will see G4S operating at all events at the re-developed site, which includes a 23,000 seat arena and 650,000 square feet of leisure and entertainment space inside the dome.
Since Tony Blair hailed the dome as “the most exciting thing to happen anywhere in the world in the year 2000”, the Greenwich site has been the subject of much controversy.
However AEG, who own sports and entertainment facilities across the world, are confident that the new 02 Arena will become ‘Europe’s leading entertainment destination’. The arena will play host to musicians and shows throughout the year, and the venue is now expected to play a substantial role in the 2012 Olympics.
G4S supply security services and stewarding at other sports and leisure events in the UK, including Royal Ascot, the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and Henley Royal Regatta.
