Indian panel clears names for new chiefs of the BSF, ITBP and SSB
The Cabinet appointments committee has cleared the names of three senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as the head of three paramilitary organisations – the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Ranjit Sinha, a 1974 batch officer, will take over as the new director general of the ITBP. Sinha was once the director general of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and previously worked within the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ITBP.
U K Bansal, who presently holds the important post of secretary (internal security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, will take over as the new director general of the BSF.
Pranay Sahay, secretary (security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, will take over as the new director general of the SSB.
A formal announcement about the appointments will be made in due course. All three posts are going to be vacant in the coming months as the heads of the respective organisations retire.
