Help solve installer’s night time problem
Security Installer reader, Tim says he is tearing his hair out to resolve night time issues with two cameras.
We usually get our CCTV Doctor Jon Hill to answer queries like this, but this time, as Tim has forwarded examples of his image problems (right) we thought we’d open it up to readers on I4S.
Says Tim: “I’m looking for some help. I’ve installed a CCTV job and I’m pulling my hair out trying to resolve issues with two cameras.
I’ve attached four images of the cameras, two during the day and two at night.
The images are not at all good at night.
The one looking at the main gate has street lighting past the gate and sodium lights to the right of the picture.
Other cameras in the car park are fine.
I’m using a true day night camera with a 35mm zoom lens. The camera is about 10m away from the gate.
I’ve even tried a day/night dome with 10m IR and still the images are poor.
The second camera is under an archway. I’m using again a true day/night vandal dome.
Under the arch are lights, but not sodium. They are energy saving lamps.
Do you have any suggestions – other than focusing at night and risking loosing the good picture during the day?”
If these images are anything to go by, he seems to have quite a problem. So what do you think?
Just click on the comment box with your suggestions before Tim tears out all his hair!
And if you’ve got any installation problems email us at I4s (with example images if appropriate) and see if online readers can help.
