Detectors combat false alarms at hotel

An Edinburgh hotel is benefiting from a new detection and alarm system designed to combat false alarms. The Cairn Hotel is situated in the lively theatre district of Edinburgh and has 52 bedrooms and meeting room facilities.

As part of a refurbishment, the hotel has had a new fire detection system installed by Marbco Fire and Safety.

To avoid the common problem of false alarms in hotels caused by steam from the bathrooms, Singcare recommended Nittan Evolution detectors. A combination of EV- P photo-optical and EV-DP dual wavelength photo-optical smoke detectors have been installed, with no false alarms from steam reported since.

Nittan Evolution EV-DP smoke detectors have been designed to combat false alarms from non-combustion products such as steam, dust and aerosols, by measuring the actual particle size in the chamber via its combined IR and blue LED technology. As steam and dust are much larger particles than smoke, the detector won’t false alarm.

Both models feature their own ASIC , a 360 degree omniview LED indicator that can be seen from any angle, and increased EMC immunity by the inclusion of a bandpass discriminator circuit.
