ASIS celebrates record CPP passes in the UK

Now celebrating its 35th Anniversary, the ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification is the de facto internationally recognised designation for security managers. Over this 35-year period, nearly 10,000 security professionals have attained this key qualification.

The CPP examination represents the culmination of five months of very intense distance learning and classroom study. Many of this year’s candidates admitted it was the hardest study process they’d undergone since school.

Their reward was not only the CPP certification – as stated, an international benchmark of advanced competence in security management – but also significantly expanded knowledge. The CPP knowledge base is produced by committees of experienced subject matter experts from all parts of the world working in collaboration.

Candidates from the UK and overseas

Among the more well-known brands to support their security professionals in CPP and PSP certification work so far this year have been Adidas, Burberry, EADS, Shell, Thames Water, Astra-Zeneca, BG, G4S, Sony, Nomura and Experian.

Joining the UK Chapter contingent have been candidates from as far afield as Botswana, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, France and Austria, with the CPP group including several UK security contractors working under challenging circumstances in Nigeria, Algeria, Iraq as well as the maritime environs of Somalia.

“That the CPP certification is so highly valued across many business sectors and regions of the world is testament to its rigor,” commented David Cresswell, ASIS UK Chapter Committee Member with responsibility for certification. “Anecdotally, a regional security advisor for one of the UK’s biggest companies remarked recently that, when recruiting, those with CPP are at a significant advantage of being hired.”

  • The next combined distance learning/classroom CPP Preparation Programme will begin in January 2013, but if you’re interested in achieving CPP before then ARC is offering an intensive, all-classroom course between 3-19 September. Contact Janet Ward via e-mail at: [email protected] for further details.

If the selection, specification and operation of physical security systems is of direct relevance to your role you may wish to consider the Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.

Continued Cresswell: “This very useful certification will teach you how to select, deploy and project manage barriers, electronic detection systems, CCTV, contraband detection and access control systems, etc. There’ll be an Orientation Day for this programme on 12 July prior to commencement of the distance learning phase of this programme on 23 July.”

  • Distance learning for this November’s course begins next month. Again, more details are available via e-mail from: [email protected]
