D-Tec leads field in fast growing VSD market
The Alton, Hampshire-based company, part of AD Holdings, has a 41 per cent share of the world market (nearest rival 24 per cent) and 38 per cent share of the EMEA market, according to the IMS Research report “World Market for Fire Detection and Suppression Products”.
Video smoke detection is an alternative to traditional fire detection in lofty, voluminous areas such as warehouses, manufacturing plants, aircraft hangars, railway stations and atriums, where traditional smoke detectors have problems because of the distance between the source of the smoke and the detector.
Unaffected by distance, the video detection tackles previously “unsolvable” problems and can also work externally.
More than 80 per cent of D-Tec’s business is now export and prestigious projects include the massive 600-metre wide Royal Airwing Hangar complex at Dubai International Airport, the world’s largest privately-owned aircraft hangar.
VSD has also been retrofitted to CCTV cameras at the Sydney Harbour Tunnel.
The company is now providing the IP-based FireVu for remote monitoring and has recently integrated VSD technology directly into CCTV cameras.
Ian Moore, MD, said he was pleased with IMS’s confirmation of its market lead and he was confident the company would maintain it.
The report is based on 2006 market data analysis.
