Aceda provides secure solution for UK’S biggest solar farm

The 30 acre solar farm consists of more than 21,000 solar panels and will meet the electricity needs of approximately 1,000 homes in the local area.

Aceda was commissioned by developers Carlton Power to design and install a full security solution that could be fully integrated with an IP network, allowing the site to be remotely manned and monitored.

The GB pound 15m solar farm will be monitored by a number of CCTV cameras that are strategically positioned around the site to limit any shadows cast over the extensive rows of solar panels.

Remote monitoring stations will be notified when fence line sensors detect changes in kinetic energy around the 3.5km fence perimeter structure.

The IP cameras have been commissioned to focus on a specific point in the fence perimeter if the intrusion detectors are triggered.

Flagship project
Managing director of Aceda, Nick Harker, said: “Langage Solar Farm is a flagship project for Aceda, and demonstrates our ability to integrate physical security systems into an IT network and deliver a cost and energy efficient solution.

“Aceda’s design engineers worked closely with Carlton Power to ensure the site is fully secured and monitored continuously.

“Our effective uses of state of the art IP technologies allow all of our security solutions to be sustainable and carbon efficient, which is vitally important in the renewable energy sector.”

The Langage Solar Farm was constructed over a three month period by developers Carlton Power.

Keith Clarke, managing director of Carlton Power, said: “Langage is an ideal location for a solar farm and will help meet the UK’s need for new sources for renewable energy.

“With the valuable support of the local council as well as the hard work of the contractors, Langage has been built against a very demanding timeframe and is one of only a very small number of large-scale solar farms that will operate in the UK over the next few years.”
