Drax Perimeter Security has launched a rapid-response portable radar for use with high-security perimeter protection. It can work independently (modules by radio, GPS and integrated batteries), or with other units. Recently it has been used by the US Air Force to protect dozens of air bases in the United States.
Also from Drax is a triple technology sensor fence (vibration, taught cable and video movement), claimed to be the first product that incorporates these three technologies in a completely integrated way. The lower part of the fence houses vibration sensors; the upper part has cables that register any change in tension; and the posts hide video movement sensor cameras that warn at up to 75 metres distance.
The Leopard perimeter system from Gruupo Sallen Tec is based on a fibre optic sensor using lasers. The light from the laser diode is inserted into the fibre optic and, because of the different index levels between the nucleus and the covering, it rebounds to the detector. The micro metric variations on the outside make the optical path vary and, once analysed, allow them to detect intrusion.
It incorporates analysis software capable of discerning events, such as a cut in the fence or someone climbing it. The Leopard perimeter system has been chosen by the Spanish Interior Ministry for installation in the perimeter borders of Ceuta and Melilla.
