Cisco Systems is to acquire SyPixx Networks, a US provider of network-centric video surveillance software and hardware that enable existing analogue video surveillance systems to operate as part of an open IP network. The deal will enable Cisco to deliver to clients video surveillance as part of an intelligent converged environment.
Under the terms of the agreement, which is subject to regulatory approval, Cisco will pay around $51 million in cash and options for SyPixx. “. . .Cisco has already shown that an IP network can be a platform for helping to protect a company’s information and digital assets,” said Marthin De Beer, vice-president of Cisco’s emerging market technologies group. “Through the acquisition of SyPixx, Cisco will begin to show how the network can also be a platform for enhancing the safety of people and the protection of physical assets.”
The SyPixx portfolio includes IP-video camera encoders, digital-to-analogue video monitor decoders, analogue video transmission equipment, and video recording and management software and servers.
