The four-day course saw female students taking accredited lessons in either door supervision or security guarding.
The women were then invited to employer networking events, where they had the chance to meet up with security companies looking for staff.
London’s Lambeth College, which founded the “Women in Security” course in conjunction with the SIA, G4S UK and Skills for Security (formerly the Security Industry Training Organisation), is pleased with the results.
‘The college was pleased to see the confident and proactive approach of some of the beneficiaries in looking for industry-related jobs,” said Julie Naldrett, head of the college’s business development unit.
“As there is an evident demand for female personnel in the sector, Lambeth College has successfully negotiated to train 13 more women, making a total of 92, in both door supervision and security guarding.’
Katarina Carnecka is one of the women who have successfully started a career in security after taking part in the publicly-funded course.
For her hard work she was awarded a GB pound 150 Argos voucher, which she plans to spend on a bike to help her get to her new job.
The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and the European Social Fund (ESF) fund the initiative as part of a programme.
