Info4Security Webinar: PSIM – the fusion of security and business efficiency
The Security Portfolio at United Business Media is busily gearing up for the second in a new series of webinars we’ve designed to cover a host of essential topics.
Our main aim with these live events is to offer you – our dedicated readers and security sector professionals – essential information that will help boost your knowledge base and inform Best Practice operation.
If you’re new to the world of the webinar, what we’re talking about here is a seminar – complete with detailed presentations and open forum real-time discussion – transmitted live over the Internet.
The key feature of a webinar is its interactive elements – the ability to give, receive and discuss information.
That’s a deliberate contrast, by the way, with a webcast (in which the data transmission is one way and doesn’t allow interaction between the presenters and the live audience).
You can log on to these events from the comfort of your office or home study, listen to what our carefully selected speakers have to say and then offer your own opinions by way of a live Q&A session.
PSIM: the fusion of security and business efficiency
– Date: Thursday 8 December 2011
– Time: 3.00 pm GMT
– Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes (45 minutes of presentations, 45 minutes Q&A)

Following on from our highly successful network video in retail event held in conjunction with Axis Communications, we are now scheduled to look at the subject of Physical Security Information Management (or PSIM for short) in an event that’s sponsored by Verint.
Today, a myriad of security solutions are used to safeguard buildings and critical infrastructures: examples include access control, identity management, alarms, video surveillance, video analytics and more.
Typically, each of these systems will perform a specific task and operate in their own proprietary environment with virtually no working knowledge of each other and limited interactivity. Acquired over time, they’re also unlikely to be standardised across a given organisation.
The end result? Very often a piecemeal and somewhat inefficient approach to security.
Bringing together information from these separate solutions to form comprehensive, co-ordinated security/business plans and responses to incidents requires considerable effort. Indeed, the overwhelming amount of information often makes it impossible for operators to know how to act effectively and decisively, particularly when under stress.
PSIM solutions capture information from a variety of security, safety and enterprise systems. They enable end users to view and analyse information such that they might quickly and efficiently identify situations and then initiate rapid, effective responses (often in collaboration with first responders and outside agencies).
Put simply, PSIM solutions assist the end user to plan and monitor their security and overall business environment, respond effectively to events and review those responses for auditing/regulatory compliance.
With this in mind, a panel of experts has been assembled to discuss and debate the key issues involved in PSIM, focusing – among several areas – on technology and process as well as solutions and business compliance management.
Attendees who pre-register will be invited to submit their questions and opinions to be answered and debated live by the panel members.
Essential topics to be discussed and debated on the day
Essential topics to be discussed and debated in the webinar include:
- the background to PSIM: heightened threats to security
- PSIM explained: what’s it all about?
- growing compliance requirements for end user organisations
- siloed systems mentality impeding response time and quality
- the business benefits of integrated solutions: improved efficiencies, lower cost, better preparedness for crisis management/pre-planning
- ‘next generation’ technology and how it aids regulatory compliance
- device deployment: the optimisation of security planning
- collaboration and communication: real-time scenarios
- the need to secure buy-in for PSIM solutions at Board level
Attendees who pre-register will be invited to submit their questions and opinions to be answered and debated live by the panel members.
