Security Industry Does its Bit for National Apprenticeship Week

Engineers-of-tomorrow-photoThe security industry is again showing its commitment to National Apprenticeship Week through a competition to find the most promising young apprentices.

Taking place at IFSEC International in June, Engineers of Tomorrow will pit apprentices against one another in a 90-minute security test.

Contestants will assess a previously installed, faulty intruder alarm system, identify its faults, recommission the system and then apply any additional security and safety measures.

Now in its 14th year the Engineers of Tomorrow competition offers a platform for talented young installers and engineers to showcase their skills to potential employers and, of course, win prizes.

Whoever is awarded the most points by a panel of judges from security inspectorates, training and commercial organisations will win a £1,00 cash prize, supplied by event sponsor CSL Dualcom. Second place will land someone a £500 Red Letter Day voucher, provided by the National Security Inspectorate, while third place is worth £250, courtesy of the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board.

Also taking place at IFSEC International, which runs from 17-19 June at ExCeL, London, is the 100 in 100 initiative, an apprenticeship recruitment scheme designed specifically for the UK security sector. The 2014 scheme will take place in the IFSECGlobal.com Centre Stage Theatre as part of the IFSEC International Academy conference programme.

National Apprenticeship Week, which ran last week,  saw employers pledge more than 20,000 new apprenticeships.

Print“Apprenticeships are crucial for nurturing future expertise,” said Simon Banks, CSL DualCom’s group managing director who devised the 100 in 100 programme. “The key to increasing apprentice numbers rests with the employers. The benefits of refreshing the talent pool provides businesses with a loyal employee with skills sets tailored for a lasting career within the professional Security sector.”
