500,000 Long Cycle Testing for Timber Fire Doors

[

Timber-based fire door provider Halspan has released details of product tests which indicate its doors are able to maintain integrity throughout their life.

Chiltern International Fire (CIF) carried out the tests, subjecting a Halspan timber fire door to 500,000 opening and closing cycles, which is equivalent to it being used in a busy hospital environment under BS EN 1191: 2000. The door achieved Class 8 (heavy duty) under the classification standard BS EN 14600: 2005.
The same door then underwent fire resistance testing to BS 476-22: 1987 in CIF’s vertical fire resistance test furnace and outperformed the 30 minutes’ fire resistance target set.

Mark Cummings, CIF head of section for fire resistance, said: “Halspan wanted us to devise a tough test matrix for its doors, to demonstrate to specifiers that they could have total confidence in the product’s performance, even in high traffic conditions such as schools and hospitals. The test results show that even after heavy usage, the fire doors are expected to do what they have been designed to do, help save lives.”
